Militarism
The alliances in Europe encouraged militarism, the agressive build up of armed forces to intimidate or threaten other nations. German militarism made it to where Britain got involved in the alliance system. Their policy was to protect weaker countries against stronger ones, and to make sure that one country did not conquer all of Europe. By the late 1800's Germany was one of the strongest nations in Europe. Germany also had been building a well modern day navy, to where this threatend the British who depended on their naval strenght.
